British vlogger Harry Jaggard recently documented his Nigerian tour through a series of videos. One such video highlighted an encounter with a local tout in a Lagos market, who attempted to extort money from him.
As Jaggard filmed on the bustling streets, the tout approached, claiming to represent the local government and demanding payment to allow continued filming. Skeptical, Jagard requested to see an identification card.
The tout's failure to produce any ID led the accompanying tour guide to advise Jagard to dismiss the tout, and they proceeded with their exploration.
In a separate incident captured on video and shared on social media, Jaggard experienced an attempted scam while purchasing a local street snack, puff puff.
A man, unaffiliated with the snack vendor, attempted to inflate the price, suggesting the vendor charge Jagard more.
These incidents sparked outrage among Nigerians online, who criticized the touts for tarnishing the nation's image and misrepresenting the citizenry to the international community.
Additionally, the videos prompted some international viewers to criticize the undervaluing of Nigerian street food by locals, as seen through the vlogger's experiences.
