Videos of former Governor of Kogi State Yahaya Bello dancing in excitement after his release from the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) are circulating.

Yahaya Bello was accused of money laundering to the tune of N110.4 billion during his tenure as governor. As a result, he was declared wanted for evading his arrest. Bello finally surrendered to the anti-graft agency in the company of the current governor of Kogi State, Ahmed-Usman-Ododo.

The EFCC detained him and after appearing before the court, he was granted bail of N500 million with three sureties in the like sum by Justice Maryann Anenih of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT High Court, Maitama, Abuja.

In her ruling, Justice Anenih stated that the sureties must be notable Nigerians with landed property in Maitama, Jabi, Utako, Apo, Guzape, Garki, or Asokoro.

The judge also ordered Bello to deposit his passport and other travel documents with the court registrar and directed that he remains in the custody of the Nigerian Correctional Service Centre, Kuje, until his bail conditions are met.

Two other defendants standing trial alongside Bello, Umar Shuaibu Oricha and Abdulsalami Hudu had their bail conditions varied. The judge reduced their bail sum from N300m to N200m and further ordered that they could provide landed properties within the jurisdiction of the court that had the same values as the bail sum.

Days after his release, Bello accompanied by Governor Ododo arrived at the royal palace singing, dancing and jubilating following his release.

This sparked widespread condemnation following the allegations he was facing.

@JacobAmeh6: Celebrating to his win over efcc,
118 billion successfully archived

@OlorogunErnest: It seems it was actually better he came out to get arrested and fined N500m as bail, and now he's got his freedom as he was hiding for months from the EFCC. He can now party all over Nigeria.

This is why many believe Nigeria is indeed a crime scene.

@Imbuya_media: This is extremely shameful!

@abimbolasuccess: Kogi state is accursed! I can't remember the last time they had a good governor

@ab_rashiid: Released or not, Nigerians already know him as a criminal who stole the patrimony of his state. He will never contest for anything and win. Ever...

@Xavier_3102010: A society bereft of any ounce of integrity. They are all dancing with him because non of them see anything wrong with what he did. In fact if they had a similar opportunity they might do worse.

@iam_arinzona: Nigerians celebrate with fraudsters' calls (yahoo yahoo).
Still celebrate with money launderer that steal their common wealth.
We all are normalising this and see nothing wrong in fruad. No control or restrictions the future stealing will pandemic

@waxdigitals: Here in this pathetic country, we always celebrate Fraud and corruption…. This man should be locked up and jailed for Life…. What’s all this ….

@isaacfemi: The oppressed celebrating their oppressors. What a life

@MezieAbia: Dance on, Bello. How lucky you are. You’re so lucky to have come from Nigeria where the oppressed roll out drums to celebrate their oppressors. You’re so lucky to come from a Nation where the citizens suffer a disease known as ‘Stockholm syndrome’ - a syndrome that makes them forget all their sufferings in a twinkle of an eye as they become so sympathetic to their oppressors and traducers.
