Viral video: Young lawyers sing, mob Peter Obi in attempt to take selfie

The organic support and love Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) has received from Nigeria's young population dwarfs those of any other presidential candidate vying for the elections in 2023.

The former Anambra governor, who made an attempt to run on the ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) defected to the fringe Labour Party to pursue his aspiration following what he described as an attempt by the party's leadership to sabotage him.

The question of if that decision was the right or wrong one is evident as Nigerians, home and in the diaspora continue to show massive support of all kinds to the politician.

Building blocks and offices have been gifted to the campaign of Peter Obi by his massive movement "Obidients" to water down the argument that he lacks the requisite structure to win an election in Nigeria.

From Abuja to Edo, to Kaduna and to Adamawa, the home state of Atiku Abubakar, the PDP presidential candidate, the message is one, and it is clear. Nigerians want a leader that can solve the pressing need of the country.

Peter Obi seems to fit that description.

He told Nigerians at the opening plenary of the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) in Lagos on Monday, August 22 that the 2023 elections would not be about religion or tribe, but about who had character and competence to deliver the country from its current mess.

He said, “Nigeria is in a mess. We got here simply because of the accumulative effects of bad leadership. The coming elections are not about tribe or religion, but about character and competence. We need a bold transition from a highly insecure state to a highly secure state.”

The message seemed to have gone down well with the young lawyers in attendance as they chanted "Peter Obi!!! Peter Obi!!!" while they made several attempts to grab a selfie with him.

The video was shared on the Facebook account of the vice presidential candidate, Dr Yusuf Datti Ahmed with the caption: "H.E Peter Obi is the man of the people."
