Gunshots and teargas were fired within the Rivers State House of Assembly Complex on Monday as some lawmakers sat to begin an impeachment process on Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

Report indicate that 23 lawmakers, including the Speaker, Martin Amaewhule, who presided over the sitting, met to begin the process.

Recall that there on Saturday night, explosion was heard at the assembly complex as the chamber was razed.

The lawmakers also suspended the leader of the House, Edison Ehie, and some of their colleagues suspected to be loyal to the governor.

It was gathered that shortly after the sitting, lawmakers were seen at about 8:15am driving out of the Assembly with heavy security escorts.

Suddenly, there was gunshot and firing of teargas, causing people to run helter-skelter as policemen chased people, including workers whose offices are located within the area.
