A video of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, promising Nigerians an end to the university strike action seven years ago has resurfaced.

During his campaign for President Muhammadu Buhari on 2015, Tinubu appealed to Nigerians to vote for the All Progressives Congress as he promised better education, employment opportunities among others.

He also mentioned that the APC will make available student loans and each person would not have to spend more than four years for a programmes.

Tinubu said;

"You wait in the university for seven, eight years, instead of a four year course. Are you not tire of it? School fees is becoming high, are you not tired of it? I can teach them how to create the jobs locally. We will give you student loan. Our Programme, four years will be four years. You will not extend more than four years to graduate in a university."

However, Tinubu's campaign promises are contrary to what is happening presently as the Academic Staff Union of Universities ASUU strike has been ongoing for more than seven months under the administration of Muhammadu Buhari.

Following the shutdown of the universities the Federal Government, on Tuesday, October 4, registered two new trade unions for workers in the university and teaching hospitals in a bid to forcefully reopen tertiary institutions, weaken influence of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and break the ranks of lecturers.

The unions are the National Association of Medical and Dental Academics (NAMDA) and the Congress of Nigerian University Academics (CONUA).
