Protesters have stormed the headquarters of the Edo State Police Command in Benin City in demand for justice concerning the rape and murder of Uwaila Omozuwa.

Uwaila Omozuwa, a 100 level student of Microbiology at the Univerity of Benin, was raped and bashed with a fire extinguisher in the head by unknown men.

She was found in serious condition inside a branch of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, in Edo State where she had gone to read at night.

The news of her death sparked outrage on social media with people demanding for the perpetrators to be brought to book.

The social media protest has now moved to the Police Command in Benin City with a crowd carrying placards despite coronavirus pandemic in Nigeria.

Meanwhile, MyNigeria.com reported that the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Adamu Muhammed, has deployed forensic support for the investigation on the rape and murder of Uwaila Omozuwa.

The IGP also called for calm and assured that the Nigerian Police Force will surely bring the perpetrators of the callous act to book in the shortest possible time.
