Journalist and co-host of the Arise Television Morning Show, Rufai Oseni, believes that without reforming the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the 2027 election will be a disaster.
Oseni’s call for reform comes in response to the events that took place during the 2023 general elections. People raised alarm over ballot box snatching, voter intimidation, the failure to input collated figures into the IReV and other issues that arose.
The observer mission also criticised the election, citing flaws, malpractices and irregularities. Many Nigerians who tried to vote expressed frustration at the voting centres, as they complained of thugs preventing them from voting in their respective areas based on their tribe and party affiliation.
In light of these issues, Nigerians are now calling for a reform of INEC before the 2027 general elections.
Here are some reactions.
@Comeback_snarky: We should kuku just do monarchial system.
Father is aso rock. Son in Lagos,
The other governors will be chiefs.
@ProBolly: This should be our political gospel, a reformed INEC, digitally transparent.
Every single day that passes without a public outcry for this cause is our complicity in hijacking elections in 27 and beyond.
@Eseosa_douglas: Voting in 2027 is a waste of time, unless Inec is revamp, I can’t be waiting my time anymore
@OrugbalaSamuel: At this junction there's no elections that will save Nigeria. Only option is REVOLUTIONS of different type, Be it political revolutions, mental revolutions, economical revolution, and even bloody revolutions. Know this and know peace
@spirit124: Association of Past Criminals will be in charge of reforms?
@Iamikenna2: We don’t need reform in that, we need a change of voting body
@SullivanJosh2: totally agree and until we make INEC truly independent with a system that regulates who becomes the Chairman, INEC will always fail us due to the focused loyalty to the one who hired them or will save their job.
@ChidinduAriwodo: 𝚄𝚗𝚏𝚘𝚛𝚝𝚞𝚗𝚊𝚝𝚎𝚕𝚢 𝚝𝚑𝚎 𝚜𝚊𝚖𝚎 𝚙𝚎𝚘𝚙𝚕𝚎 𝚝𝚘 𝚛𝚎𝚏𝚘𝚛𝚖 𝚝𝚑𝚎 𝙸𝙽𝙴𝙲 𝚊𝚛𝚎 𝚝𝚑𝚎 𝚘𝚗𝚎𝚜 𝚝𝚑𝚊𝚝 𝚠𝚊𝚗𝚝𝚜 𝚒𝚝 𝚊𝚜 𝚠𝚎𝚊𝚔 𝚊𝚜 𝚙𝚘𝚜𝚜𝚒𝚋𝚕𝚎 𝚏𝚘𝚛 𝚎𝚊𝚜𝚎 𝚘𝚏 𝚖𝚊𝚗𝚒𝚙𝚞𝚕𝚊𝚝𝚒𝚘𝚗.
@anasbello142526: That is my fear. who we will trust in 2027, security or INEC
@DamiTheOG_: There won't be any significant change in Nigeria until we change our constitution and get one that represents all stakeholders.
