US-Based Nigeria Doctor leads trials for COVID-19 vaccine

A US-Based Nigeria Doctor, Dr Babafemi Taiwo is playing a leading role in the National Institutes of Health study on Remdesivir - the antiviral drug America is approving to fight COVID-19??

According to Taiwo, the drug shortened the time of recovery and helped patients battle the virus.

In a CNN interview, the doctor said the final analysis is a few weeks away, nevertheless, the drug has shown great promise.

Dr Taiwo is a Professor of Medicine at Northwestern University Chicago. He received his MBBS from Nigeria’s University of Ibadan College of Medicine, he trained at the University of Massachusetts Berkshire Medical Center.

Taiwo went on to complete subspecialty training in Infectious Diseases at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine before joining the faculty. He won the John Carey Young Investigator Award in 2009 in recognition of his contributions to research on HIV resistance and management of co-infections. ??
