Como manager Cesc Fàbregas has disclosed that he told his team to slow down after scoring their fourth goal against Manchester United in the UEFA Champions League clash.
The Serie A outfit thumped the Red Devils 4-1 at the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia on Wednesday, October 22, to compound the pressure on United manager Michael Carrick.
Goals from Jacobo Ramón and Anastasios Douvikas, alongside a brace from Argentine sensation Nico Paz, ensured that Joshua Zirkzee’s stoppage-time goal counted only as a consolation for United.
In his post-match reaction, Fàbregas stated that he told his team to slow the pace of the game after going 4-0 up, a decision he now regrets.
“I regret the last ten minutes because I was the one who told the team to slow down the tempo because there’s another match and at 4-0, we could manage things a little,” Fàbregas said.
For Manchester United, it was another poor performance under Michael Carrick.
The result has added further fuel to calls for the former Manchester United midfielder to be sacked.
