Galatasaray manager Okan Buruk has disclosed why Victor Osimhen was left out of the squad for their UEFA Champions League opener against Eintracht Frankfurt.

Despite sustaining an ankle injury while on international duty with Nigeria, earlier reports suggested that Osimhen would be available for the clash against the Bundesliga side.

However, contrary to those reports, the former Napoli striker was not included in the 23-man squad for the encounter by coach Okan Buruk.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Buruk revealed that the Super Eagles striker is still battling with injury and is currently not fit to travel with the team.

“As you know, Osimhen was injured. We couldn’t play him in the league match, but we had hopes of at least having him available for this game,” Buruk was quoted as saying on the club’s official website.

“The key question was whether he could play with the team. He tried in training over the last two days, but the feedback we received from him was that he wasn’t fit to play at the moment.”
