Manchester City's hopes of retaining the UEFA Champions League title came crashing down on Wednesday night after Real Madrid edged them 4-3 via the shootouts.

The quarterfinal second leg clash between the two European heavyweights saw an incredible display from both sides.

It was a dominant display from the home side while the Los Blancos responded with an incredible defensive display.

Fourteen-time winners Real Madrid ultimately emerged victors on the night from the spot kick after the game ended 1-1 (4-4 on aggregate) after extra time.

Speaking in a post-match reaction, Ancelotti disclosed that City boss Pep Guardiola came to their dressing room to congratulate the team for their qualification.

“This is about the only way you can come to City and win.

“You work, sacrifice and win however you can.

“Pep Guardiola is a gentleman, always has been. He congratulated us, wished us good luck and that’s what a real gent does,” Ancelotti told Movistar.
