Flying Eagles captain Daniel Bameyi has stated that Nigeria will be gunning for revenge when they face Senegal in the quarterfinals of the ongoing 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
Senegal defeated Nigeria by a lone goal in the opening fixture of the last edition of the tournament in 2023.
Bameyi, who was part of the team two years ago, has disclosed that they are ready to avenge that loss.
“We are going to be facing the defending champions. It’s going to be a difficult game, but we want to be at the World Cup, and it’s important we beat them to achieve our objective,” Bameyi said during a press conference.
“I can’t forget the first match at the previous AFCON—we lost to them 1-0. This match is very important to me and the team. It is like a final. We just want to make sure we avenge that defeat.”
Aliyu Zubairu’s side will lock horns with Senegal at the Suez Canal Stadium in Ismailia at 1:00 PM local time on Monday, May 12.
