Tyla praises Wizkid after finally dropping their 3-year-old track ‘Dynamite’

South African Grammy-winning star Tyla has opened up about her long-awaited collaboration with Nigerian Afrobeats icon Wizkid.

In an interview with Capital Xtra in London, Tyla revealed that their song Dynamite was actually recorded three years ago long before her breakout success. She admitted she was still relatively unknown at the time and didn’t expect Wizkid to agree to a session.

“I was new when I linked up with Wizkid. A lot of people didn’t know me. I didn’t expect him to be down for a session, but he was.”

“He liked some of the stuff I played him, and we made Dynamite. I’ve been sitting on the demo for three years, dancing to it every day in my room and hoping one day I would get to drop it.”

Tyla, who rose to global fame with her viral 2023 hit Water, also took a moment to praise Wizkid for his influence on African music and his unwavering consistency.

Wizkid has done so much for the culture, pushing our music and bringing eyes towards our creatives back home. He is just the best. I don’t think he has one bad song.”

She called him one of the most influential African artists of this generation.

Tyla made history in 2024 when she became the first-ever recipient of the Grammy Award for Best African Music Performance, thanks to Water. With Dynamite now officially out, fans are calling it another hit in the making.
