Turkish journalist Burhan Can Terzi has reportedly been arrested and detained following his report about the future of Bayern Munich star Jamal Musiala.
According to reports, the football journalist was apprehended on charges of publicly disseminating misleading information.
Terzi, who works as a football reporter in Istanbul, reported that Musiala would be joining Galatasaray from Bayern Munich this summer, a claim that was later denied by the Turkish champions.
Despite the club's denial, Terzi refused to withdraw his report, claiming that he was putting his life on the line for the story.
Terzi's persistence led to accusations from fans that he was spreading false information, despite Galatasaray not lodging an official complaint against the journalist.
The Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office opened an investigation into the matter, while recent footage that has surfaced online appears to show Terzi being led away by police.
Galatasaray said in a statement:
“Due to the deliberate circulation of false and misleading reports about our club in recent days, we find it necessary to issue the following statement to inform the public that the ‘Jamal Musiala is set to transfer to Galatasaray’ reports are completely unfounded.
“It is also noteworthy that the individuals and platforms responsible for these speculations were behind similar false claims during the previous season.”
