A video has surfaced showing notable personalities in Nigeria leading a protest against former President Goodluck Jonathan’s government due to the rise in prices of food and other commodities.
In the video, notable figures such as human rights lawyer Femi Falana; Afrobeats singer, Femi Kuti, Overseer of the Citadel Global Community Church in Lagos, Pastor Tunde Bakare; politician Fela Durotoye and human rights advocate Tunji Bratwaite, were present to voice their concerns about Jonathan’s administration.
In 2012, when Jonathan was president, he removed fuel subsidy, causing fuel prices to increase from N65 to about N200.
On January 9, 2012, a massive protest organized by Save Nigeria Group took place, with thousands of Nigerians in attendance. The group convener, Tunde Bakare, and other leaders demanded that the government address corruption rather than burdening Nigerians.
This video resurfaces amidst the current economic crisis plaguing Nigerians under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Since Tinubu took office, the economy has become unstable with food prices regularly increasing and fuel prices skyrocketing after Tinubu removed fuel subsidy on his first day in office.
Nigerians who discovered the video have raised concerns about the silence of these notable men who once led protests in the past.
