On June 24, 2025, a series of coordinated attacks targeted forward operating bases in Kwanar Dutse Mairiga and Boka, Niger State, as well as Aungwan Turai in Chikun Local Government Area, Kaduna State.

The assaults, executed by heavily armed bandits in a sophisticated three-pronged strategy, aimed to overwhelm the military outposts and disrupt security operations in the region.

The bandits, leveraging the element of surprise, struck with significant force, challenging the resilience of the stationed troops.

In response, the Nigerian military swiftly mobilized a robust counteroffensive, combining the efforts of land and air component forces. Ground troops, supported by air cover, engaged the assailants in intense firefights across the affected areas.

The military’s rapid reaction included precision airstrikes and tactical ground maneuvers, which effectively neutralized scores of bandits during the prolonged encounters. The operation showcased the military’s determination to restore order and protect vulnerable communities from further threats.

Tragically, the day-long battles came at a heavy cost. Several gallant soldiers made the ultimate sacrifice, laying down their lives in defense of the nation.

Additionally, four troops sustained gunshot wounds during the fierce engagements and are currently receiving medical treatment at a military hospital. The injured soldiers are reported to be in stable condition, with medical teams providing comprehensive care to ensure their recovery.

The attacks highlight the persistent security challenges in Niger and Kaduna States, where banditry, kidnapping, and armed violence continue to threaten civilian safety and regional stability.
