Transfer: ‘It’s a priority for me’ – Maresca names player he needs at Chelsea

Following the long-term injury layoff for Levi Colwill, Chelsea boss, Enzo Maresca has said that he is looking for a new centreback.

Earlier reports had suggested that Chelsea won’t bother returning to the transfer market in search of Colwill’s replacement.

Fabrizio Romano had reported that Chelsea have not activated any immediate ‘emergency plan’ to sign a new centre back.

The report said the Blues have full trust in the rest of the players and also with their latest signing, Jorrel Hato able to play at centre back or left-back.

This is after it was confirmed on Thursday that Colwill will miss most of the 2025/26 season after he sustained an ACL injury.

The England defender has undergone surgery after the scans confirmed the situation.

The 22-year-old was injured after he returned for pre-season at the start of this week, sustaining the injury in training.

Speaking on Friday as the Blues put finishing touches on their preseason tour, Maresca said, “It’s a priority for me to get a new centre back. We will see if we go for it,” as quoted by Fabrizio Romano.
