Traditionalists have gathered to rain curses on the immediate past First Lady of Ondo State, Betty Akeredolu-Anyanwu, for referring to the Olowo of Owo as a "Baby Oba."
Betty had criticised the monarch following reports that he orchestrated the demolition of a cenotaph built by her husband, the late ex-governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN), to honour the 41 lives lost in a terror attack on worshippers at St Francis Catholic Church, Owo, on June 5, 2022.
Reports indicate that the Olowo of Owo was displeased that a monument commemorating death was situated too close to his palace, thereby defying tradition. This led to the demolition, reportedly aided by the Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, an action Betty claims was done to erase her husband's legacy.
Visiting her husband's graveside, she recorded a video in which she referred to the Olowo of Owo as a "Baby Oba."
This has angered traditionalists in Owo town, who gathered by the roadside with different ritualistic items to rain curses on Betty Akeredolu-Anyanwu.
Speaking in a strong Yoruba dialect, they said that Betty will henceforth experience misfortune and misadventure as a result of her actions.
This was as they broke raw eggs and sprinkled palm oil and alcohol along with other ritualistic items while making incantations against her.
