A lawyer has revealed that top government appointees are demanding bribes from foreign investors in Nigeria.

Speaking on Seun Okinbaloye's "The Mic On Podcast", guest speaker, lawyer, Liborous Oshoma, recalled how a top minister demanded bribe from a foreign investor who was ready to bring in dollars into Nigeria during former President Muhammadu Buhari's government.

He said; "Throughout the last four years of Buhari's administration, a top minister in government was asking for bribe saying, "what is in it for me" before they will allow those investors bring in the funds. And that was consistently happening in the CBN, it is still happening today."

However, Paul Alaje, Chief Economist said that the bribe demands is still happening in the President Bola Tinubu's administration.

Sharing his experience, Alaje said;

"I can tell you that the same is currently happening ... whether my clients are talking to President Tinubu is another conversation entirely. But there are people who wants to bring funds to this country in hard currency. They have to knock doors and beg."

Journalist, Seun Okinbaloye asked if the people of Nigeria are cursed following the remark from Alaje.

The Chief Economist went on to narrate how he was approached by one of his clients who said they have funds they plan to give to Nigeria but they are unable as they are meant to pay bribes before they can support the country.

According to him, this incident happened in December of 2023. Alaje was of the view that the people we trusted to redeem Nigeria trusted the wrong people to help them save the country.
