Tinubu wins APC presidential primaries

The National leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been declared the winner of the party's presidential primaries held at the Eagle Sqaure in Abuja.

Tinubu defeated his closest contender and ally, Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo and Former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi.

The ruling party had indicated it approved no fewer than 2,322 delegates from the 774 local government areas of the country are expected to vote at the presidential primary, including the six area councils of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The contest was tilted in favor of the former Lagos governor following the resignation of seven aspirants. They include Governors Kayode Fayemi (Ekiti) and Abubakar Badaru (Jigawa), Senators Ibikunle Amosun, Ajayi Boroffice, former Speaker Dimeji Bankole and the only female aspirant Mrs. Uju Kennedy Ohaneye.

Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) Mr. Babachir Lawal, told Channels Television earlier that the endorsements would increase Tinubu’s projection of votes to 1,800.

About Bola Ahmed Tinubu

Tinubu made his debut in politics as an activist in the pro-democracy agitations of the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO) in the early 1990s.

The 70-year-old was instrumental to the formation of the APC in 2013, and the emergence of President Muhammadu Buhari as president in 2015.

His main challengers in the 2023 polls have been identified as Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP).
