Tinubu's govt reportedly moves to tax generator owners in Abuja over pollution

The Tinubu administration is set to begin charging generator owners in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) for noise pollution, sparking concern among residents and business owners.

A notice issued by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) was recently displayed at a small business office in Zone 11, Abuja. The notice informs occupants that fees will now be imposed for noise pollution generated by the use of power generators.

The move has raised serious questions, particularly in a city where access to stable and affordable electricity remains unreliable. Many business owners argue that generators are not a luxury but a necessity for survival.

Critics say it is unfair for the government to penalize citizens for relying on alternative power sources when it has failed to provide consistent electricity. They warn that the policy could place additional financial strain on small businesses already struggling to stay afloat.
