Tinubu’s aide pledges varsity scholarship for UTME high scorer

Personal Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Special Duties, Kamorudeen Yusuf, has pledged to sponsor the university education of Miss Adetutu Osoba, who scored 309 in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination.

Osoba, who will turn 17 in two months, had sat for the UTME in 2024, scoring 265, but failed to secure admission into the University of Lagos (UNILAG) to study Business Administration last year.

Determined to gain admission into UNILAG, Osoba reapplied this year and improved her score to 309.

Yusuf said he decided to sponsor the Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area, Ogun State indigene after being impressed by Osoba’s resilience and determination to pursue university education.

In addition to the scholarship, the presidential aide also paid Osoba’s hostel and tuition fees at a popular fashion academy in Lagos, where she is currently honing her tailoring skills while awaiting admission.

Speaking on the development, Osoba, the first of three children in a family of five, said she was overwhelmed by the recognition and support following her UTME performance.

“First, God did it. Second, I was self-motivated to do better this year because I did not secure UNILAG admission last year,” she said.

“I’m grateful for the kind gestures shown by my benefactor, Mr Yusuf, who has promised to sponsor my university education. I want to assure him that he’s not going to regret it because I’m going to make him proud.

“It is very unexpected to be so honoured in a world where no one remembers people except if you have the right connections and influence.”

Sharing her advice for other young people, Osoba encouraged them to remain focused and believe in themselves.

“You should know that you can always do better. Nothing is impossible for you,” she added.

Her mother, Mrs Temitope Osoba, a petty trader, expressed gratitude to God and praised Yusuf for his support.

“We’re very proud of her. We are very happy indeed. It is the Lord’s doing, and it is marvellous in our sight. We also appreciate Mr Yusuf for his kind gestures,” she said.

“We appreciate and love him more. We pray that God should grant him all his heart’s desires.”

In a related development, Yusuf had also last week awarded a scholarship to Sodiq Shoyode, a 16-year-old from the same Ado-Odo/Ota axis who scored 360 in the 2025 UTME.

Shoyode’s academic feat went viral on social media, attracting widespread praise. Following the news, Yusuf was awarded a scholarship and funded his admission, tuition, and accommodation at a leading digital academy, where he is currently learning Full Stack Development while awaiting admission into the university.

Yusuf, a known philanthropist, had recently awarded N10m in scholarships to students in Lagos State as part of what he described as his lifelong commitment to supporting less privileged youths to reach their full potential.
