Tinubu's Victory: 6 Things that happened on Tribunal's Judgement Day

The presidential election petition court on Wednesday, September 6, affirmed President Bola Tinubu’s victory in the 2023 presidential election held on February 25.

This comes after several weeks of listening to the petitions challenging the victory of Tinubu.

In the reading of the judgement, some interesting events unfolded which caused a stir among Nigerians.

1. Tribunal upholds Tinubu’s victory at the 2023 presidential election

The leader of the five-person panel of the tribunal read the judgement which affirms Tinubu’s victory. He said; “This petition accordingly lacks merit. I affirm the return of Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the duly elected President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The parties are to bear their cost.”

2. Court strikes out all petitions challenging Tinubu's victory as president

At the reading of the judgment, the court struck out all the petitions from the aggrieved petitioners challenging Tinubu as the President of Nigeria.
Some of the petitions struck out include the alleged dual citizenship and drug conviction against Tinubu presented by Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

3. Labour Party rejects Presidential Election Petition Court Judgement

Following the ruling upheld by the tribunal, the Labour Party have rejected the judgment upholding the declaration of Tinubu as the actual winner of the February 25, 2023.

In a statement issued by the national publicity secretary of the party, Obiora Ifoh, the party will consult with its lawyers on its next move.

4. APC, PDP, LP chieftains, lawyers captured sleeping captured

During the reading of the judgement, several lawyers, and party chieftains were captured sleeping.

The representative who could not hold back sleep as the justices read out the judgment dosed off with Nigerians taking videos of them on live television.

APC national chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, and others top the list of those captured on camera sleeping.

APC chieftain and Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo was also spotted taking a nap at the court.

Journalists were not left out as Channels Television and AIT reporters were also seen sleeping at the court.

5. Tinubu, Shettima's dramatic reaction to his tribunal win against Atiku, Peter Obi trends

Moment after the court ruled in favour of President Tinubu, Shettima who was present in court spoke to the media.

In his remark he noted that he would retire the former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to Fombina to spend the rest of his days rearing goats, broilers and layers.

President Bola Tinubu who is currently in India for the G20 summit, also watched the tribunals’ proceedings along side other allies who accompanied him.

After the judgement affirming his victory, Tinubu was seen celebrating in a video.

6. Supporters drum support for their principal.

As the court proceedings were ongoing, supporters of the ruling party and the opposition took to the streets to drum support for their principals.

Both men and women were spotted holding placards and banners as they sing and dance.
