Wole Soyinka, the Nobel Laureate, has said he only wanted the president-elect, Bola Tinubu, to decentralise the system of government.

While calling for restructuring, the academic called for a detailed decentralization with more devolution of powers to the various tiers of government.

The Ogun-born literary icon made the demand while appearing on Arise TV's "Morning Show" on Wednesday, April 2.

He said: "Let us have a genuine, practical, detailed decentralisation, the real devolution of powers to the various arms, tiers of government, states, local government, the reinforcement of civil societies in various grouping."

Tinubu is expected to be sworn in as President on May 29, and many elder statesmen, particularly from the southern part of Nigeria ensure restructuring as soon as he resumes office.

During his campaign for the February 25 presidential election, Tinubu said the restructuring, and power devolution, can only be achieved with the corporation of the national assembly, the body responsible for making laws in Nigeria
