Tinubu’s fight against corruption crucial for national development – Cleric

The President, United Apostolic Church of Christ Worldwide, Dr James Owoyemi, said on Sunday that the unrelenting fight by President Bola Tinubu against corruption was crucial to the bid to right the wrongs, put the country on the development path and restore Nigerians’ hope.

Owoyemi, who said the 2023 general election and the results were answers to prayers, expressed optimism in the restoration of the country’s lost glory, saying it behoved the citizens to assist the government by “working in that direction and not towards collapse and destruction.”

The UACC general overseer, who spoke after a sermon titled, ‘Time for total restoration’ during the Annual Trustee Meeting of the church held at Ikere Ekiti, said that in view of the deep-seated corruption and decadence in the country, the president should stop at nothing in doing the needful to restore citizens’ hope and country’s glory.

He said, “Corruption has eaten deep into Nigeria’s system, I advise the present government to work towards eradicating corruption in Nigeria or at least reducing it to its barest minimum. There is a need to shun nepotism in the process for the desired result to be achievable.”

Owoyemi also urged the Tinubu administration to work on the country’s judicial system to restore Nigerians’ confidence, saying, “Due to some happenings in the immediate past, a lot of people have lost interest in the judicial system in Nigeria.

“Again, let there be a reward for hard work in Nigeria. Something must be done urgently to discourage the situation whereby those who are not doing legitimate work are the ones getting money. That is why a lot of the young ones are no longer interested in studying or working because they don’t see the reward for those people that are genuinely working.”

The cleric canvassed opportunities for wealth and job creation to meet the needs of the growing youth population and to steer the minds of the younger ones away from crimes and criminalities, saying, “If the government can make provision for the youth, this will definitely reduce insecurity.

“God answered our prayers regarding the 2023 general elections, many people did not believe that the elections would end that way, but we trusted God, God had told us that after the election, there would be peace and that is what we are experiencing.

“God has promised us that there will be restoration, Nigeria will be restored back to its lost glory. We should be working towards that and not towards collapse and destruction. We should be working towards bringing Nigeria back to its normalcy,” the cleric said.

UACC General Secretary, Pastor Joseph Oluwatuase, said the church had the responsibility to continue “to assist the government with prayers for the improvement and development of Nigeria and that God should bring to bring to fruition the government’s development plans for the country.”
