President Bola Tinubu is set to announce another palliative for the organized labour following their planned indefinite strike on Tuesday, October 3.

The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), accused President Tinubu and his administration of failing to provide palliatives for workers to cushion effect of the fuel subsidy removal.

Reacting the labour’s concern, the Minister of Labour revealed that the President would announce palliatives for the workers on Sunday, October 1 during his Independence Day broadcast to the nation.

Speaking in an interview with The Punch, Olajide Oshundun, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Labour, disclosed that a meeting has set with the organized labour on Tuesday to discuss the palliatives.

He noted that the demands of the NLC have been presented to the government and are been considered.

Oshundun stated that, Simon Lalong, the Minister of Labour, Employment and Productivity, met one of the demands which was to release the factional chairman of the National Union of Roads Transport Workers (NURTW), Tajudeen Baruwa, from police custody.

His statement reads in part: “They need to be rest assured that there will be a pronouncement in the October 1 speech of Mr. President for Nigerian workers.

"The ministry is working assiduously to meet with the second aspect of the demand which focuses on the wage award."
