The Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, has come to his defense after a viral video showed Tinubu falling at Eagle Square in Abuja during the commemoration of Democracy Day.
In the video, as Tinubu approached the vehicle, he stumbled and fell at the back of the presidential parade vehicle.
With the assistance of his security personnel, Tinubu regained his balance and continued with the event proceedings as he smiled and waved to the people gathered at the venue.
His fall brought about several divided opinions. While some trolled the President, some sympathized with Tinubu.
In response to the trolls, Onanuga tackled them saying Tinubu is human like anyone who could slip and fall.
He urged Nigerians not to be distracted and to focus on the importance of his message on Democracy Day.
Onanuga cited examples of the current American President, Joe Biden, and his predecessor, Barack Obama, who slipped and fell while in office.
He wrote on X: “President Tinubu is not a Superman. He is human, like all of us. President Biden has had several slips in the last three years. Even the younger Barack Obama slipped while President. Political leaders are human. Slipping should not detract from the import of Democracy Day celebration.”
