President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has become a major topic for discussion around the world following his actions as ECOWAS chairman in dealing with the coup d’etat that occurred in the Niger Republic.

As the Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States, Tinubu is making attempts to end the coup and restore democratically elected Niger President Mohamed Bazoum to power.

However, the Niger junta, led by Gen. Abdourahamane Tchiani, has vowed to resist the bluff of ECOWAS and any other foreign influence on the country.

He accused France of violating Niger’s airspace, attacking a military camp, and freeing "terrorists" to undermine the country, a claim France refuted.

As ECOWAS Chair, Tinubu sent a request to the Nigerian Senate to deploy Nigerian troops in neighbouring Niger to restore constitutional order in the troubled country, which was denied.

On August 8, the United States also warned that America may be pushed to become militarily involved if the country’s military rulers do not return to constitutional order.

After the 7-day ultimatum was given to the Niger junta to end its coup, Tinubu issued more sanctions against its neighbour by cutting power supply to the West African country.

In an interview on Russian media outlet RT, investigative journalist Alex Rubinstein explained how President Bola Tinubu's corruption scandal somehow did not manage to destroy his political career.

He explained that despite his drug trafficking allegations and rumoured file in the FBI's custody, Bola Tinubu continues to meet with the US Embassy and brief them on the political landscape in Nigeria as revealed by WikiLeaks.

The investigative journalist described Tinubu as an "imperial puppet for the United States". According to Rubinstein, he believes the United States is using the Nigerian president to do their bidding.

"Bola Tinubu is the perfect kind of imperial puppet for the United States. This is what they do over and over again. They find a compromised figure, somebody they can exact leverage on, and they pop them up, and the second they become no longer useful, they go after them, get rid of them, put them in jail, or have them taken out. So what is going on in Nigeria right now and in West Africa is that he is the perfect person for the United States because they can make him do whatever they want," Rubinstein said.
