Atiku Abubakar Atiku Abubakar

Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party has said that President Bola Tinubu should not have been allowed to contest the 2023 election because he broke the law.

Reacting to the Supreme Court jugdgment affirming President Bola Tinubu winner of the February election, Atiku noted that several evidences of manipulation, violence and gross irregularities were presented to the Independent National Electoral Commission, which was ignored.

According to him, evidences were provided to show that Tinubu was not qualified to contest the presidential election, prove of his the alleged forged academic certificate.

His comment comes after the apex court dismissed the his appeal and also refused to consider the academic records of the Tinubu obtained from the Chicago State University, which Atiku sought to tender as fresh evidence to prove his allegation of certificate forgery against the former Lagos governor. The seven-man panel said the appeal lacked merit.

Speaking at a press conference held in Abuja, on Monday, Atiku said;

"It is about our country Nigeria and their future. It is about the kind of society we want to leave for the next generation.

And what kind of example we want to set for our children and their children. It is about the reputation of Nigeria and Nigerians in the eyes of the world.

We showed in controversial evidence that Bola Tinubu was not qualified to contest the presidential election because he forged the qualifying academic certificate which he submitted to INEC.

In fact a simple check on Tinubu's past record in his possession should have showed INEC that Tinubu broke the law and should not have been allowed to contest the election in the first place.

We showed you irreputable evidence of gross irregularities, violence and manipulation during the election.

We showed incontrovertible evidence that INEC violated the electoral act and deliberately sabotaged its own publicly announced processes and procedures in order to illegally declare Tinubu elected.

The position of the Supreme Court even though final, leaves so much unanswered."
