Tinubu appoints 17 Chargé d'affaires, Consuls General for embassies

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed 17 new Chargé D’affaires and Consuls General to Nigeria's mission in various countries worldwide.

This was made known in a statement by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and New Strategy in a tweet on Tuesday, April 23.

The statement disclosed that the President approved the appointments of 5 new Chargé D’affaires and 12 Consuls General for Nigeria's global missions.

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar urged the appointed Chargé D’affaires and Consuls General to serve as effective representatives of Nigeria, highlighting their crucial role in furthering President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's economic goals.

He emphasized the importance of remaining focused on their diplomatic duties as experienced diplomats, urging them to steer clear of engaging in political activities and instead rededicate themselves to the noble pursuit of diplomacy for the benefit of Nigeria's progress and common good.

The designated Consul General for the Consulate in New York Ambassador Abubakar Jidda, who represented the appointed individuals "emphasized his colleagues' dedication to maintaining the principles of their profession and promised to attract crucial investments to the country."

He also expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the leadership of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for entrusting them with this responsibility. The newly appointed individuals are expected to start their duties right away.

The minister asserted that their appointments were pivotal to President Tinubu's economic drive and stressed that, as seasoned career diplomats, they should distance themselves from politics and be committed to their diplomacy, calling for Nigeria's collective interest.
