Throw back Thursday: In 2012, Nnamdi Kanu was seen promoting one Nigeria and northerners

“My name is Nnamdi Kanu, and the reason we are here today is to protest the death of innocent women, children, and men in Nigeria, particularly in the northern region of the country.

“We are dissatisfied with what is taking place, and that is why we are here today. As you can see, a large number of Nigerians are protesting the assassination of families.

Kanu appeared in the film, which was shot in 2021, among other Nigerians protesting in the United Kingdom against the country's recent instability.

Kanu, who identified himself as a member of the protest's Organizing Committee, encouraged all Nigerians and lovers of the country to put an end to terrorist actions, which were rife at the time, particularly in Northern Nigeria.

He warned that failing to do so will lead to another civil war, saying that if the 1960s events repeat themselves, ‘no place will be secure in Nigeria, this time around, nobody will be safe in Nigeria.'

“My name is Nnamdi Kanu, and the reason why we are here today is to protest the death of innocent women, children, and men in Nigeria, particularly in the northern region of the country,” he added.

“We are dissatisfied with what is taking place, and that is why we are here today. As you can see, a large number of Nigerians are protesting the assassination of families.

“People who are determined to tear the country apart violently, and it is not something we support, and it is not something we want to see continue, and we are here today to send a clear message to the Nigerian government through the High Commissioner that what is happening in the country is not acceptable, and we cannot accept it.

“If this continues, the country will be violently disintegrated, and there will be no Nigeria for anybody to visit, and no Nigeria for anyone to refer to. In reality, today's events in Somalia will resemble a tea party.

“So, we can't let this farce go on any longer; something must be done, and the repercussions of terrorists' activities in Nigeria must be handed over to the people so that the terrorists themselves may learn that there is no... If they believe they can cower, compel people to accept a religion that isn't theirs, the only thing they can achieve is the split of Nigeria.

“We are requesting peace. We are pleading with everyone who cares about Nigeria and is affiliated with the country to help us defeat terrorism in Nigeria so that we can put an end to it. That is why a large number of Nigerians have assembled here today, and those of us in the United Kingdom are resolved to help with the government to achieve peace; one thing we cannot prevent is a repeat of 1966.

“What is happening in Nigeria today was the catalyst for a three-year civil war in Nigeria between 1966 and 1970. If this continues, Nigeria will face another civil war, and this time there will be no safe places in Nigeria, and no one will be secure in Nigeria.

“As a result, it is critical that everyone who cares about the country asks now and promptly to put an end to this nonsense.”

Kanu created the IPOB in 2012 with the goal of restoring an independent state of Biafra in Nigeria's south-east through a referendum.

Kanu, who began calling for the formation of Biafra in 2015, has subsequently risen to fame alongside the organization, reaching out to his Nigerian audience through broadcasts on the popular Radio Biafra and social media.
