Controversial Social media activist and commentator Martins Vincent Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan, has expressed concern over the alleged demands reportedly made by bandits who kidnapped dozens of schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo State.

According to reports, the kidnappers are demanding ₦1 billion, the release of suspected terrorists currently held in Agodi and Abolongo prisons, two Hilux vehicles, and the implementation of Sharia law in Oyo State before the victims can be released.

Reacting to the development, VeryDarkMan said the alleged inclusion of Sharia law among the demands would further fuel concerns held by some Nigerians about a possible agenda to spread extremist ideologies across the country.

The activist noted that while such fears exist, the vast majority of Nigerian Muslims do not support terrorism or extremist beliefs.

According to him, terrorist groups such as Boko Haram have killed more Muslims than Christians over the years, with northern states bearing the brunt of the violence.

VeryDarkMan also pointed to divisions among different Islamic groups in Nigeria, arguing that extremists often target fellow Muslims who do not subscribe to their interpretation of the religion.

Expressing frustration over the growing insecurity, he questioned how criminal groups could become bold enough to allegedly demand that ransom payments be sent outside Nigeria.

“Every day these people seem to be gaining more confidence. The question is, what is being done to stop them?” he asked.
