Third Term Agenda: Governors at the time also wanted another term - Obasanjo reveals

Olusegun Obasanjo Olusegun Obasanjo

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has said the governors were pushing for the third term agenda at the end of his eighth term as president because some of them wanted it.

Obasanjo an elder statesman made this known in a soon-to-be aired interview With Chude that the governor would have enjoyed third term if he succeeded in it.

"The governors were doing it for themselves (the third term). Because if the president got a third term, they will also get a third term," he said as snippets from the interview was released.

Recall that Obasanjo in an interview early this year had said he could have got a third term in office if he wanted, saying he is “audacious enough” to get it.

This is as he says he won’t join the campaign train of the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, saying he has done his best by writing on his endorsement.

The ex-president said he had no regrets leading Nigeria.

Obasanjo said, “I am not on the campaign trail. I’ve used the benefit of my experience and I’ve put plainly.

“I do not belong to any political party. I will not join any campaign train. I’ve said what is best for the country.”
