Grammy-nominated Afrobeat musician and social activist Seun Kuti has reiterated his critical stance on Nigeria’s political leadership, asserting that former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi and President Bola Tinubu represent the same ideological framework.

Speaking on a recent episode of the Sell Afrika to Afrikans podcast, Kuti argued that both political figures operate firmly within a capitalist framework, dismissing the notion that switching individual leaders will solve the nation's structural challenges.

"Peter Obi is not different from Tinubu. They’re all the same," Kuti stated, echoing similar assessments he made during the 2023 presidential election campaign.

Beyond assessing the two politicians, the musician criticized what he described as a pervasive "messiah complex" or "big man-ism" in African politics.

He argued that public reliance on powerful elites to address basic developmental needs—such as infrastructure, education, and community welfare—reflects a form of "spiritual slavery" rooted in religious conditioning.

According to Kuti, lasting progress requires citizens to dismantle their dependence on individual leaders and instead organize around their collective power to drive systemic change.
