President of the Yoruba Community in Ghana, Ambassador Oloye Fatuyi, has said that he believes there is hope for Nigeria despite its current predicaments.

According to him, before things get better, the bad and terrible need to be flushed out and that is what Nigeria is experiencing.

In Nigeria today, insecurity is a major problem; clashes between tribes and ethnic groups, secession, kidnappings, and economic instability just to name a few.

“I know with the way things are going in Nigeria now, I’ve seen the sign coming, before things will be good, things will go bad. I know that with the way Nigeria is today, there is hope for us tomorrow,” he said.

Speaking in an interview with MyNigeria, Ambassador Fatuyi berated the attitudes of politicians in Nigeria. In his opinion the level at which elections are rigged in favor of another or a party is alarming.

He noted that people should be allowed to contest and win elections fairly without intimidation.

Amb Fatuyi also believes that Nigeria and other African countries would become a safe haven for its citizens if they put the people first and not their pockets.

“We are running a system in Nigeria where you know people don’t want you but you want to force yourself there because you have the military mind, you have access to the state apparatus, you can do what you like. So that is where we are today. We are not moving anywhere, we go forward one step, we go backward seven steps. That is the problem we are facing in Nigeria and most African countries.”

"The problem we have is when the political scene is dirty, a lot of people want to stay back, nobody wants to soil their name, or be killed. Some people don’t want to leave power, they are ready to pay people to tarnish you and pull you down,” he said.
