Dr Reuben Abati, a co-host of Arise Television's Morning Show has taken a swipe at Nigerians who risk their lives when scooping fuel from tankers that are involved in various forms of accident.

Describing that as a "psychotic lot", Dr. Abati wondered why anyone would want to risk their lives to scoop fuel from overturned tankers.

He shared his thoughts on the Morning Show on Friday, October 13 following a petrol-laden tanker exploded in the Sari Iganmu area of Lagos State.

"Is something wrong with our people? It is like there is a major mass psychosis going on in this country that we need to address. And that is why on this program I keep criticizing the National Orientation Agency, what exactly is it doing?" he quizzed.

"They are a psychotic lot. Fuel is something that is inflammable. Each time a tanker capsizes, you will see people carrying kegs, carrying jerrycans and scooping fuel. Which means too many Nigerians are ready to die. They don't mind, they just want to commit suicide," he adds.

The incident according to the officials of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Services said the "tanker fire is being combatted at the Lagos Quadrapoint Bridge, by National Arts Theater, Iganmu as Sari Iganmu and Ilupeju Fire Crews combine efforts to tame the raging fire.”
