'The reckless spending Obi spoke about' - Reactions as FG budgets N5bn for presidential yacht

The federal government has elicited outrage among Nigerians following its proposal to earmark the sum of N5.095 billion for the acquisition of a Presidential yacht under the capital expenditure Nigeria Navy and N5.5 billion for education loan fund in the 2023 supplementary budget.

This information was included in the 2023 supplementary appropriation details of MDA spending.

According to the document, the Nigerian Navy suggested spending N20.42 billion on recurrent expenses and N42.3 billion on capital expenditures, for a total budget of about N62.8 billion.

The Nigerian Navy's budget plan also includes the following items: buying vehicles, building naval bases in Lekki and Epe, supplying necessary equipment, and buying ammunition.

Following the federal government's measures, many Nigerians have expressed their dissatisfaction, deeming them unnecessary.

Some said that this is an example of the careless spending that Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Labour Party had earlier said will happen in the country.
