The details surrounding Mauricio Pochettino's departure from Chelsea after just one season have now come to light.

The Blues disclosed their decision to part ways with Pochettino on Tuesday evening following their sixth-place finish in the Premier League.

As reported by Sky Sports, the Argentine issued a statement to Chelsea fans following the announcement of his departure.

"Gratitude to the Chelsea ownership group and Sporting Directors for granting me the chance to contribute to this football club's legacy."

The news has surprised many, given Chelsea's strong season finish and Cole Palmer's rise as one of the league's standout players under Pochettino.

Why Pochettino left Chelsea

A report from The Telegraph has provided further insight into the decision for Pochettino's departure being a 'mutual agreement.'

The report states that there were no disputes over transfer responsibilities or player sales.

Instead, the issues were described as more 'philosophical,' concerning the dynamics of working within the club's structure.

The report continued:

"All parties opted to avoid hasty decisions that might lead to regrets, thus agreeing to adjourn the meeting on the first day and resume discussions on Tuesday morning."

With no progress made on either side during the second day of discussions, Pochettino and the club agreed that it was preferable for him to leave Stamford Bridge now, rather than risk a 'messy' conclusion to his tenure next season.
