'The Nigerian army gave the attackers cover' - Northern Plateau Youth leader makes explosive claim after Jos attack

Fresh controversy has emerged following the deadly Palm Sunday attack in Jos, as a northern Plateau youth leader alleged that security operatives, the Nigerian army, on the spot, failed to confront the attackers and instead gave them cover.

Speaking with VeryDarkMan in a viral video interview after the March 29, 2026, assault in Angwan Rukuba, the youth leader claimed the gunmen, whom he identified as Fulani men, stormed the area wearing military camouflage and opened fire indiscriminately on residents and traders.

According to him, “Those Fulani men came shooting, wearing army camouflage, shooting everywhere. Moments later, we saw army Hilux vehicles giving them cover.”

The youth leader further alleged that when local youths attempted to pursue the fleeing attackers, military vehicles arrived in the area and fired warning shots, effectively preventing any chase.

Similar eyewitness accounts have also appeared in local reports, with some residents claiming soldiers arrived as the assailants were retreating but did not go after them.

The allegation has intensified public anger over the deadly incident, which left at least a dozen people dead according to official police figures, while community leaders and eyewitnesses have put the toll significantly higher.
