Ted Cruz peddling hoax, conflicting figures on alleged Christian genocide - Omokri

Former presidential aide Reno Omokri has accused US Senator Ted Cruz of dishing out conflicting figures concerning his claims of Christian genocide in Nigeria.

According to Omokri, "You really have to understand that the numbers keep changing because this story is a hoax. First, the claim was that half a million Christians were killed in Nigeria last year. Then Bill Maher asserted, and you affirmed him, that 100,000 Christians have been killed since 2009. And then today, you have again reduced the death toll to 50,000.
Truth is constant. You know what is not abiding? Lies."

Sharing on Facebook, Omokri reiterated that there is no Christian genocide in Nigeria, adding that those behind the claim have never visited Nigeria but are only relying on hearsay.

"The Christian Association of Nigeria, the official umbrella body of the Body of Christ in Nigeria, has debunked this claim today.
Yes, people are being killed by terrorists and criminals. However, they are people of all faiths, including those without religion.
These enemies of Nigeria are killing Muslims, Christians and Traditional African Religion adherents. All lives matter, not just Christian lives.

"These terrorists are a result of the fall of the Gaddafi regime in Libya after the Obama administration instigated a crisis in that North African nation. His foreign mercenary army metamorphosed into Boko Haram and ISWAP. Unfortunately, the same Obama government refused to help Nigeria fight them.

"Even the sources that you cite, opendoors.org, do not claim there is a Christian genocide. Senator, where did that word come from?

"As to your claims that Nigerian officials are facilitating these killings, please note that three out of four service chiefs are Christians. The Chief of Defence Staff, Chief of Army Staff, and Chief of Naval Staff are Christians, and the Inspector General of Police is a Christian

"Only the Chief of Air Staff is a Muslim. Given the above facts, if you, Senator Ted Cruz, know the Nigerian officials that you claim are facilitating a genocide against Christians, please name and shame them.

"Finally, I reiterate my position that you should visit Nigeria on a fact-finding mission before making up your mind and sermonising about this issue," he said.
