Taraba to quarantine 65 travellers after interception by state police

Taraba State Police Command has said that it will possibly quarantine all 65 travellers intercepted on their way from Ogun State to Adamawa.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police Operations, Faleye Olaleye revealed that the individuals, said to be workers of a Chinese firm in Ogun, paid the sum of N720,000 to be conveyed to Numan in Adamawa.

According to Channels TV, the driver of the said vehicle dumped them and ran away with the vehicle to an unknown destination upon reach Jalingo.

One of the travellers, Haruna Adamu, said the Chinese company closed down and they were asked to leave, hence the decision to use such a strategy, CHannels Tv reported.

“We had no place to go when the company closed down, we stepped out and found a vehicle heading to the north, then we contributed to pay him to convey us,” he said.

Adamu who noted that the bargain was for the driver to take them to Numan, said they were surprised to know that they were dumped in Jalingo, with another arrangement to convey them via 18 sitter buses to their destination.

Adamu admitted that they violated lockdown in Ogun State and moved out since Wednesday, April 15 before been intercepted today in Jalingo.

Their presence in the state is set to make residents panic as such the state government is considering COVID-19 isolation before sending them to Adamawa state for further quarantine, the state’s Commissioner of Health, Dr Innocent Vakkai.
