The suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, was captured hiding from journalists while speaking over the phone when he appeared before the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Thursday.

According to reports, the arraignment which was initially scheduled for today was stalled due as a result of the absence of some defendants joined in the charge.

Emefiele was charged alongside Sa’adatu Yaro, a female CBN employee, and her company, April1616 Investment Limited, on 20 charges bordering on procurement fraud, conspiracy and conferring corrupt advantages.

Recall that on July 25, the suspended CBN governor was arraigned on a two-count charge bordering on “illegal possession” of firearms at a federal high court in Ikoyi and was granted bail in the sum of N20 million.

However, he was returned to the DSS custody pending the fulfilment of his bail conditions.

Upon his appearance at the court, on August 15, the Federal High Court in Lagos struck out the firearm charges against Godwin Emefiele.

This occurred following the withdrawal application made by the Director of Public Prosecution of the Ministry of Justice, Mohammed Abubakar.
