Supreme Court dismisses Atiku’s plea to file fresh evidence against Tinubu

The People's Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar's request to provide new evidence against President Bola Tinubu has been denied by the Supreme Court.

Justice Inyang Okoro gave this verdict at the Presidential Election Tribunal Court (PEPC) on Thursday, October 26, during the hearing of the appeals filed against Bola Tinubu's victory.

In order to prove that Tinubu provided the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) with a falsified certificate, Atiku had petitioned the court for permission to present further evidence.

According to Atiku's attorney Chris Uche (SAN), the 32-page document that was made available to his client should be acknowledged for justice to prevail.

However, Justice Okoro argued that the window for admitting such evidence had passed. He referred to the 1999 Constitution's Section 285(5), which states that the PEPC will consider and rule on any petitions pertaining to the presidential election.

Justice Okoro claimed that the Supreme Court lacked authority to admit the document because the 180-day period had ended on September 17.
