Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu found himself in unfamiliar territory on the pitch in Trabzonspor's league game against Göztepe on Sunday, December 7.
The lanky striker was deployed in the centre-back position after his side were reduced to 10 men against Göztepe.
Wagner Pina was shown a straight red card in the 78th minute of the game, forcing coach Fatih Tekke to push Onuachu into the defence.
The former Southampton man played the last 20 minutes of the game as a centre-back as his side managed to secure a hard-fought 2-1 victory away from home.
Speaking in his post-match interview, Tekke stated that there was no defender to rely on after the sending-off of Pina, hence his decision to pull Onuachu out of the attack.
“We were down to 10 men. There was no full-back, there was no centre-back. We were forced to move Onuachu into defence,” Tekke said.
Onuachu is the current top scorer in the Super Lig with 11 goals.
