Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye has been handed a two-month suspension after being found guilty of illegal betting activities.
Despite initial reports suggesting a potential four-year ban, the Udinese shot-stopper received a reduced punishment following a conviction on lesser charges of sports fraud.
According to authorities, the 25-year-old was found guilty of deliberately receiving a yellow card during Udinese’s Serie A clash against Lazio in March 2024, as part of a betting scheme.
The booking occurred in the 64th minute of the match, which ended 2–1 in favor of Udinese at the Stadio Olimpico.
Okoye, a former Watford goalkeeper, is expected to miss seven Serie A matches and one Coppa Italia fixture during his suspension.
He is scheduled to return to action on October 19.
