The Super Eagles of Nigeria have dropped one place in the latest FIFA World Ranking for national teams.
The three-time African champions fell from 44th to 45th position in the global rankings released by the football governing body on Thursday, September 18.
Nigeria also dropped one spot on the African continent, moving from 5th to 6th place.
The Atlas Lions of Morocco retained their number one position in Africa and remain 11th in the world.
The Teranga Lions of Senegal, Pharaohs of Egypt, Desert Foxes of Algeria, and Elephants of Côte d’Ivoire complete Africa’s top five.
The Super Eagles featured in two World Cup qualifying matches earlier this month. Eric Chelle’s side edged Rwanda 1–0, before Nigeria played out a 1–1 draw with Bafana Bafana of South Africa.
Meanwhile, European champions Spain have overtaken world champions Argentina as the highest-ranked team in the world, ending the Albiceleste’s two-year reign at the top.
