Super Eagles Vacancy: Pitso Mosimane's response when journalist told him Nigeria wants him

The Super Eagles coaching vacancy remains a focal point of discussion in the football circles as the Nigeria Football Federation is yet to announce a new head coach for the national team.

The 2023 AFCON finalist have been without a coach following the departure of Portuguese gaffer José Peseiro after the Nations Cup in February.

A number of top coaches both local and expatriates have been linked with the vacancy at the NFF.

Locally, names like Emmanuel Amunike, Finidi George and Daniel Amokachi have all been linked to the position.

Former Indomitable Lions of Cameroon coach, Francisco Conceicao and former Pep Guardiola assistant, Domenec Torrent have all reportedly expressed their interest in becoming the next coach of the three-time African champions.

One name that has been tossed into the hat among the potential successors of José Peseiro is South African coach Pitso Mosimane.

The 56-year-old in a recent meeting with Nigerian sports journalist Oma Akatugba was asked if he will consider taking over the Super Eagles job.

In his response, the former Mamelodi Sundowns boss jokingly responded that Nigeria cannot afford him.

“We want you in Nigeria,” Akatugba asked Mosimane jokingly, in his response, Mosimane teased “You can’t afford me,” as captured on Oma Akatugba's Instagram handle.

Mosimane is currently on a rescue mission with Saudi Pro League side Abha FC as he has been tasked with saving the club from relegation.

With five games left in the league, Mosimane's side are currently sitting 17th on the log with just 25 points.
