Sunshine Stars out of drop zone after edging Plateau United in five goals thriller

Sunshine Stars FC of Akure moved out of relagation zone in the NPFL, after securing a hard fought 3-2 win over Plateau United in Akure on Wednesday.

Sunshine Stars went into the game searching for three points after the embarrassing defeat to Nasarawa United last Sunday.

The Owena Whales took the game to the visitors and they deservedly went in front in the 25th minute through their leading scorer Sadeeq Yusuf.

A sloppy display allowed the visitors equalised with few minutes left in the first half. Sunshine Stars goalkeeper parried a ball on to the path of Aliyu Bala who poked home from close range.

Sunshine Stars restored their lead after the the hour mark, when substitute, Kolade Adeniji benefited from a terrible back pass from Plateau United defender to slot home the ball.

With eight minutes remaing, the referee made a big call, awarding the away side a penalty and Muhammad Zilkifilu made no mistake from the spot.

Sunshine Stars continued to search for the winner and Ejike Uzoechi, out of the blues, struck from 35 yards out to seal the three points for the Owena Whales.

The three points was enough to Sunshine Stars out of the redzone, sitting a point above the bottom four, with two matches to go.
