Yoruba Nation agitators will this afternoon Wednesday, July 21, 2021, hold a protest in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital to demand the release of their leader, Sunday Adeyemo aka Sunday Igboho who was arrested in Benin Republic.

The separatist leader was picked up by INTERPOL at an airport in Cotonou on the night of Monday, July 20.

His lawyer said he is still being held in custody despite rumors he has been released and on his way to Germany.

While in custody, reports emerged that Nigeria’s Ambassador to the Benin Republic, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai (retd.), was instrumental in Igboho's arrest. The report further stated Buratai was at the forefront of the ongoing move to extradite the activist.

The agitators last week protested against the raid of Igboho’s residence by operatives of the Department of State Services(DSS) and demanded release of those arrested in Igboho’s house.

A terse statement by Igboho’s spokesperson, Olayomi Koiki obtained by said: “EMERGENCY EMERGENCY EMERGENCY EMERGENCY, PLEASE WE BEG ALL AGITATORS TO CONVERGE AT CHIEF SUNDAY IGBOHO HOUSE FOR A PEACEFUL DEMONSTRATION TO SHOW THE WORLD THE KIND OF PERSON HE IS AS ONE OF THE CONDITIONS GIVEN FOR HIS RELEASE…

“PLEASE LETS ALL BE AT HIS HOUSE IN SOKA IBADAN BEFORE 12 O CLOCK TODAY THANKS AND GOD BLESS. YORUBA NATION NOW NOW NOW.”
