Alhaji Sa'ad Abubakar III, Sultan of Sokoto and President General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), has announced Saturday, June 12 as the beginning day of Dhul Qadah 1442AH.

Prof. Sambo Junaidu, Chairman, Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, Sultanate Council, Sokoto, signed a statement signed by Abubakar on Friday.

“Neither the Sultanate Council Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs nor the National Moon Sighting Committee received any reports from the numerous Moon Sighting committees across the country.

“This is for the seeing of the Dhul Qadah 1442AH crescent on Thursday, June 10, which is the 29th day of Shawwal 1442AH.

“As a result, the 30th day of Shawwal 1442AH will fall on Friday, June 11th. The Sultan accepted the report and designated Saturday, June 12th, 1442AH to be the first day of Dhul Qadah.

Dhul Qadah is the eleventh month of the Islamic calendar, and it is one of the four sacred months.

Because the month of Dhul Qadah precedes the holy month of Dhul Hijja, during which Muslim faithfuls perform the yearly Hajj, combat is prohibited.
